Collaboration de Misericordia avec Kris Van Assche :

"Une série de tee-shirts graphiques, inspirés de l’histoire du Pérou, et étiquetés non sans malice « Kris Van Assche cousu par Misericordia »" sera a decouvrir lors de la collection A/H 09/10 du createur belge.

"« C’est une première » pour Aurélyen, co-fondateur de Misericordia à la tête du style. A l’image de sa rencontre inattendue avec le designer dans un restaurant de Buenos Aires l’année dernière. Leur passion commune pour l’Amérique Latine, conjuguée au travail bien fait et au style recherché, pose le socle de leur collaboration. Elle s'est traduite par une série de quatorze tee-shirts et débardeurs, avec six graphismes différents, déclinés sous cinq coloris. Vendus au prix de 115 euros, ils viendront ajouter une touche sud-américaine et éthique aux boutiques Kris Van Assche ainsi qu'à certains multimarques de France : Série Noire à Lille, Hôtel Particulier et L’Espionne, Le Printemps de l’Homme boulevard Haussmann à Paris, Gentry’s à Toulouse ou encore Chlamyde à Grenoble.

Conçues à Lima au cœur du Pérou, les collections Misericordia s’appuient sur l’artisanat local qui manie avec brio le tissage et les broderies. Aurélyen emploie une petite quarantaine de personnes, toutes péruviennes, dont certaines sont présentes depuis les débuts de la griffe quand elle ne faisait encore que des tee-shirts. Chaque saison, les lignes, « mélange d’influences, d’ignorance, et de naïveté », « réalisées avec beaucoup de larmes, de joies, de colères, d’euphorie », gagnent en style, explique l’homme à l’origine du projet. « C’est un projet solidaire, social, et créatif. C’est la création qui change les gens. L’idée, c’est d’être dans un processus créatif dans un pays confronté au néant », conclut-il. "

"La griffe Marc by Marc Jacobs vient d’ouvrir à Madrid et inaugurera sa boutique parisienne le 25 octobre, place du Marché Saint-Honoré. Soit un total de quarante-cinq nouvelles ouvertures au cours de l’année 2008.

Et l’inauguration parisienne est très attendue car il s’agit du premier point de vente en propre Marc by Marc Jacobs en France. Installé sur 225 mètres carrés au 19 place du Marché Saint Honoré, à deux pas de l'adresse Comme des Garçons, l’espace regroupera les collections femme et homme, tous les accessoires (chaussures, sacs, lunettes, bijoux, parfums) et les éditions spéciales Marc by Marc Jacobs. Comme dans les autres boutiques de la marque, le concept a été dessiné par Stephan Jaklitsch, architecte attitré de Marc Jacobs.

Au programme : une façade bleu nuit, des murs bleus façon « Marc blue » et blancs, un sol en résine pandomo de Hardex bleu sombre et un mobilier design, dont une grande table skate-board dite "skatewave table". Installée dans l'entrée sur la gauche, elle sera visible de la vitrine, et s'accompagnera d'un mobilier en métal aux finitions inox, un grand miroir tout en hauteur et dans les cabines des bancs de Christian Liaigre. L’année 2008 aura été riche en événements pour Marc by Marc Jacobs, puisque la marque aux deux cents magasins n’a jamais ouvert autant de points de vente, soit un total de quarante-cinq à travers le monde à la fin de l’année 2008. Sur cette longue liste figurent notamment Moscou, Athènes, Copenhague, Milan ou encore Istanbul où ont ouvert simultanément deux espaces. Pas facile de faire rentrer le grand-petit monde de la mode au 31, rue Cambon comme le pratiquait à l'époque Gabrielle Chanel pour ses présentations. Karl Lagerfeld a donc décidé de transporter sa tente au Grand Palais et de reproduire le décor de la façade de la maison-mère avec trottoirs inclus. Ce clin d'œil d'origine est aussi le moyen d'un retour chez soi, où les valeurs initiales reprennent une nouvelle ampleur grâce à une silhouette en parfait accord entre l'héritage de Mademoiselle et l'humour décalé de Karl. C'est au demeurant l'exercice que Karl pratique le mieux, jouer sur les canons du vestiaire Chanel, un tweed appliqué d'impressions argentées dessinant des carreaux arbitraires sur les fameux tailleurs Chanel, des vestes allongées en devenir de manteaux... Mais le tweed est aussi une armure, Karl s'acharne à travailler ce tissage sur toute une première partie, et impose un noir, blanc et rose pâle de rigueur, très Chanel pour une variation tailleur qui joue ces accords brillants comme une fugue : après le shopping, retour dans la rue. Les shopping bags ont d'ailleurs fait office d'un détournement, devenus sacs à part entière en cuir noir ou blanc. Si la bande-son crie "Our House" de Madness, c'est que nous sommes bien en territoire Chanel : les surprenantes robes flamenco, dans un lamé iridescent aux teintes roses, sont encore propriété maison ; longues et à volants, elles offrent la liberté d'une deuxième partie qui décline d'élégantes robes plus sévères, mais charmantes dans le laisser-aller très maîtrisé de Chanel. Selon Karl, l'inspiration de la saison provient d'un portrait de Chanel fait par Marie Laurencin. Ce dernier réalisé en 1923 alors que Chanel dessinait les costumes des Ballets Bleus avait été refusé par le modèle lui-même. La prêtresse de la petite robe noire avait renié la liberté et la désinvolture de la pose qu'avait peinte Marie Laurencin : des tons pâles, une pose languide, une liberté de ton rare pour un portrait de Chanel. Karl reprend ici ces chemins détournés pour apposer la même douceur sur des robes en chiffons aux tonalités bleues-grises et délivre une vision plus attendrie d'une lecture cependant très maison. Ses vestes militaires à épaulettes accentuées, ses pantalons et jeans déchirés ou tachés et ses mini robes magnifiquement brodés et bien taillé, just love it.

Céline

Pour sa dernière collection avant l'arrivée de Phoebe Philo(ex D.A Chloé), Ivana Omazic est inspiré.

Celle-ci présente à mes yeux la plus belle de ses collections.

Encore plus de féminité et de légereté mais ce avec un touche de 'dur', le signe tribal.

Mais même ce dernier se fondant dans les matières délicates comme l'organza (que la créatrice utilise chaque fois) semble incarner la féminité. On aime également ses platform shoes.

Lanvin

Ces clichés ci-dessus sont pour moi l'image de Lanvin.

Ces coupes, ces matières, cette ambiance sont Lanvin.

Que dire de cette élégance + des escarpins à noeuds que l'on voit ?

Le maître n'est plus là, certes, mais je ne doute pas qu'il a du a du suivre minutieusement la collection et mieux que quiconque. Pilatti aurait-il satisfait le grand Saint Laurent par cette collection.

Peut-être bien. Monsieur Saint Laurent voulait en son temps que le vêtement soit accessible aux femmes. Chose faite pour cette saison : coupe simple, sobre, sans chichi mais chiquissime.

Perso, je n'était pas une grande fan depuis mon enfance, bien que loveuse de Disney.
Le dessin animé? Pas vu.
Mais alors depuis quelques semaines son monde "à frange " me hante.

Je parle là du revival des Minnetonkas, mocassins ou bottines à frange.

Vu sur toutes les célébrités dignes de ce nom,

même la maison Balmain s'en inspire mais avec des talons,

et d'autres s'en réinspire, se la réadapte : j'adore..........

Le décryptage du film
« Je suis blindé depuis longtemps mais bon… » A l’occasion de la Sortie de « Karl Lagerfeld, un roi seul », documentaire qui sera diffusé le 3 octobre sur France 5, à 20 h 35, l’énigmatique Karl s’est confié en exclusivité à Prestigium. Hommage suprême, il est le seul étranger présenté dans la série documentaire « Empreintes », consacrée aux 120 personnalités qui ont marqué le patrimoine français. Outre les confidences du maitre, Prestigium a pu recueillir le témoignage de Thierry Demaizières, l’un des réalisateurs du film, qui apporte un nouvel éclairage sur ce personnage hors du commun.
« Je suis une légende. » Ce pourrait être le véritable titre de ce documentaire sur Karl Lagerfeld. Légende justifiée : son travail d’une justesse extrême, sa quête de beauté sincère, son talent immense, sa puissance de création impressionnante à travers des collections multiples (Chanel, KL, mais encore Hilfiger, H&M, etc.). Karl Lagerfeld incarne la mode et y fait régner sa loi. Réalisé par Thierry Demaizières et Alban Teurlai, tourné dans la splendeur orageuse du château de Versailles, au milieu des 50 000 livres de sa bibliothèque, et à l’exposition éphémère « Mobil Art » lors de son passage à Tokyo, le film est bien rythmé ; il opte pour la couleur, quand il s’agit d’images d’archives, et de noir et blanc, lors des interviews. Le but ? Soulever un peu le voile qui protège le couturier. Pas simple. Karl Lagerfeld est une anguille. Il a peaufiné ce qu’il appelle sa « marionnette », sa vitrine, sa personnalité « bankable ». Droit comme un I, collet serré dans une de ses sempiternelles chemises blanches Hilditch & Key réalisées sur mesure sur l’un de ses dessins, avec ce haut col aristo-germanique, lunettes noires sur le nez, l’unique sujet du documentaire reste bien planqué. Karl Lagerfeld bâtit sa propre légende comme il bâtit une collection. Son look en fait partie : du shampooing sec, qui blanchit ses cheveux gris, à ses bottes Massaro ultracollantes en croco, sans oublier sa veste noire, ses gants ou son épingle à cravate.
Les séquences sont découpées en chapitres : l’enfance, les années soixante, la jeunesse dorée, le look, etc. Comme à son habitude, Lagerfeld laisse choir des miettes aux pieds des médias. Il raconte l’histoire de son enfance – très bien, comme toujours. Il parle de cette vie de gosse de riches élevé dans un village près de Hambourg avant la dernière guerre mondiale. Comment il s’est sorti d’un ennui mortel en tombant amoureux de nos arts les plus flamboyants, dont la mode – à la suite d’un défilé vécu du vivant de Christian Dior. Comment son adorable mère lui a suggéré de dessiner plutôt que de lui casser les oreilles. Comment il a appris à parler à toute allure pour capter l’attention de celle-ci avant qu’elle ne franchisse une porte. Autre temps, autre époque.
Lagerfeld avoue avoir très tôt pris conscience de sa différence, qu’il a ensuite polie comme un diamant. Il aura le cheveu long quand la société le souhaite ras, le manteau le plus griffé quand la veste Mao fait fureur, roulera en Bentley à 18 ans. Il fera partie de la jeunesse dorée parisienne des années soixante, soixante-dix, époque où il cultivera une amitié avec Yves Saint Laurent, avant de se fâcher. Dans ce documentaire, Karl Lagerfeld montre aussi un aperçu de son caractère. Sa politesse pudibonde pour tout ce qui touche au sentiment, sa volonté de fer qui l’empêche de déroger aux règles qu’il se fixe, sa position d’observateur, de visiteur. On entendra ses propos durs et secs comme un coup de trique ou, au contraire, charmants et respectueux envers des doigts d’or qui exécutent ses dessins au détail près. On s’amusera beaucoup des ridicules flatteries de la cour qui gravite autour de lui. Lagerfeld cultive son mystère. Aucun journaliste ne semble avoir enquêté réellement sur ses parents. (Prohitlériens ou non ? Lui-même assure ne pas le savoir.) Enfin, les archives familiales ayant brûlé – à l’initiative de sa redoutée mère, semble-t-il ! –, sa date de naissance – 1938 ? 1933 ? – fait l’objet de tous les cancans. Drôle d’image d’ailleurs lorsque le journaliste Thierry Demaizières l’apostrophe d’un : « 1933 ! » Karl Lagerfeld, qui a déjà tourné les talons, ne prend pas la peine de relever…
Lagerfeld a le sens de la narration mais aussi celui de la provocation. C’est dans cet esprit qu’il a accepté le challenge Chanel, à une époque où la maison était au plus bas après avoir raté en beauté le tournant de la minijupe. Il veut choquer les pythies de la mode et restaure un Chanel iconoclaste et rêvé. Il a joué des codes, les a surlignés : pieds de poule, chaînettes, matelassés… Bref, il a dépoussiéré l’image. À la suite de quoi, son nom apparaît toujours là où on l’attend le moins, devenant marque, label, phénomène. Ce « Karl Lagerfeld, un roi seul » ne permet que d’effleurer une fascinante silhouette. Ceux qui l’ont déjà côtoyé reconnaîtront le discours officiel, au mot près, et ne retiendront que cette coquetterie fondamentale : le tabou sur sa vraie date de naissance.

Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent nous a quitté le 1er Juin, à l'âge de 71ans.

Figure majeure du monde de la couture du XXème siècle, Yves Saint Laurent s’est éteint dans la nuit de dimanche à lundi des suites d’une maladie de plusieurs mois. Les obsèques auront lieu jeudi 5 juin en l'église Saint Roch à Paris. Après des débuts chez Christian Dior à la fin des années 50, le couturier avait créé sa propre maison en 1961, en collaboration avec Pierre Bergé. A partir de cette date, il ne cessera de bousculer les conventions, de contourner les diktats, voire de faire scandale à plusieurs reprises. La maison sera vendue deux fois, en 1993 et en 1999, mais il conservera le 5, avenue Marceau, siège de la maison haute couture.Cet officier de la Légion d’Honneur avait continué à créer ses modèles jusqu’en 2002, date à laquelle il fait ses adieux et présente une rétrospective de ses 40 ans de carrière au centre George Pompidou.Le couturier aura su tout au long de sa carrière imposer un style émancipé marqué par les robes trapèze, transparentes, le caban, la saharienne, le caban et le smoking devenu incontournable. PARIS, January 22, 2008 – When guests filed into the Grand Palais, they were greeted by the sight of a giant monument to the Chanel jacket, apparently cast in concrete. The message? The immutability of the brand—perhaps not a bad statement in a week when the search for rock-solid future investments is, to put it mildly, playing on people's minds.In Karl Lagerfeld's hands, the Chanel couture jacket is an infinitely malleable treasure, always current yet timelessly valuable. This collection reiterated that magical strength to the max, with lyrical plays on the little tweed classic. It was cut in neat shapes, as riding jackets, in puffy-sleeved romantic satin, or as coat-dresses with angled hems, and often fastened with huge bejeweled brooches (a strong trend in Paris). But Lagerfeld also raised questions about the end uses of couture now. By sending out each girl in a pair of ballet flats, hair decorated with ingenue tiaralike Alice bands, and keeping the lengths resolutely short, he pitched the Chanel image toward lightness, freshness, and the young customer he sees emerging in new markets.

Partly inspired by the spiraling forms and delicate colors of shells, the skirts and dresses came draped, twisted, and inserted with edgings of feather and flashes of metallic embellishment. Together, they built toward some breathtaking moments: a fondant-pink suit veiled in cream tulle, a raw-edged midnight-blue chiffon cocktail dress, a black bustier dress with gold glinting from the inside of its looped-up skirts, a creamy tiered dress made entirely from plumes. All these pristine examples of technique and imagination (and there were many more) combined to lift the audience to that special place of "How did they do that?" wonderment Chanel alone can provide. The only letdown? Something in the performance. It's not necessarily a Chanel-specific problem, but today's very young, thin, unformed models lack the personality needed to bring the joy of couture fully to life.

In an industry where you can count the successful Asian faces on one hand, Kang's victory (she's Ford's first Far East winner) will hopefully open doors for more girls like her. Now in its 28th year, the Ford Supermodel contest was the original platform for unknown faces to compete for a chance to pursue their modeling dreams. How does it stay relevant in the face of countless "make me a model" programs? The company launched its own series of televised contests in 21 countries last year, including Korea, where girls competed to represent their country in the finale. It began innocently enough, with a little oil painting by Karen Kilimnik. One day in 2002, Marc Jacobs was distractedly flipping through a Christie's auction catalog when he came across Kilimnik's Mary Calling Up a Storm (1996), a portrait of a dark-haired young woman. For some reason, the 18- by 13-inch canvas called out to the designer, who'd never before purchased a work of art. Despite his rank as one of the world's most influential style setters—he's been artistic director at Louis Vuitton for the past decade and has had his own label since 1994—Jacobs always harbored an inferiority complex when it came to the art world; in galleries he was generally too intimidated to speak to the assistant, let alone the dealer. "I had in my mind that only incredibly grand, extremely wealthy people lived with art of any sort," he says. Jacobs bought the Kilimnik, for $31,000. Within weeks he also acquired three Mike Kelly prints from Skarstedt gallery in New York, rationalizing the purchase because it was his birthday. Soon he was traveling to international art fairs, befriending dealers and artists, and in some instances asking his LVMH bosses for salary advances to cover paintings he couldn't really afford, such as Ed Ruscha's Birds, Pencils (1965), which he spotted at Art Basel. As he sits in his Paris apartment on a midsummer afternoon, Jacobs is surrounded by eight John Currins, six Richard Princes and six Ruschas, plus an assortment of Elizabeth Peytons, Damien Hirsts, John Baldessaris, David Hockneys and Lisa Yuskavages, not to mention a small but growing collection of Fifties Scandinavian handblown glass birds. "Typical addict behavior," says Jacobs with a half smile. "I just got this bug. I started going to galleries, and I kind of went mad." Jacobs, whose struggles with drug and alcohol dependency are well known, sees his new passion for contemporary art as a (relatively) healthy habit, one he intends to indulge for the foreseeable future. If Jacobs came late to art collecting, it's probably because he came late to homeowning. When he moved to Paris in 1996 for Louis Vuitton, he lived in a hotel and later a rental, but it was only when he saw a three-story garden apartment on the Champ de Mars—then owned by designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, who had a taste for Seventies-style psychedelia and large wall drawings of angels—that Jacobs felt an urge to put down roots. Touring the house, which was just hitting the market, Jacobs sat by the window of a guest bedroom, watched the kids playing on the lawns beneath the Eiffel Tower, and started crying. "It sounds really corny, but I felt this primitive connection," he says. "It was the first time I felt like I was in my home." Jacobs's decorator, Paul Fortune, was also on the verge of tears when he first saw the place, though for entirely different reasons. "Horrible" is how Fortune describes the design of the kitchen and bathrooms, explaining that de Castelbajac's idea of decorating was "to take the Pantone book and paint each wall a different color." Fortune, an acid-tongued Englishman based in Los Angeles, is known for a refined style that combines old-school elegance with a certain modern ease; he and Jacobs decided to respect the apartment's French formalism while leaving room for an eclectic mix of new art and 20th-century furniture and objects. "Marc was going through his growing-up phase," says Fortune, who's been a friend of Jacobs's since the Eighties in New York and remembers the designer's cluttered Upper West Side apartment all too well. "He realized it was time to move on. This is not, you know, a 'crib.' "For a man who is paid millions to determine the proper placement of a buckle on a handbag, Jacobs is blunt about his lack of interior design skills. "I have no sense of proportion for rooms," he says. "Paul has that ability to come in and just move a vase or something, and the space looks instantly good." Still, once he got started, Jacobs approached the project with his usual obsessive zeal. "It felt very adult to me," he recalls. "Like, I'm choosing a place to live! And I'm choosing fabrics for drapes! I'd never had drapes before in my life." More than window treatments, however, it was artwork that determined how the apartment took shape. In the library is one of Ed Ruscha's sky paintings, Heaven (1986), a 12-foot-wide canvas that Sotheby's auctioned in 2003. During bidding, Jacobs remembers, he got "a little overanxious, again," and bought the work (for $456,000, according to records) without being sure that he had a wall big enough for it. "Then I thought, Oh, gee, we should really measure." The painting fit in the library, just barely. As Fortune recalls, "Marc said, 'Do you think it will look good there?' And I was like, 'Uhhh…sure.' " Fortune dutifully found a complementary shade of brown for the bookshelves, and the right Dominique table at Yves Gastou's gallery on nearby rue Bonaparte. Like many of Jacobs's clothing designs, the apartment evinces a taste for classicism with a few transgressive twists. Walking into the entrance hall from the prim 19th-century lobby, a visitor first spots Currin's The Danes (2006), a pornographic ménage à trois from the artist's last show at Gagosian Gallery. Out in the garden, a Paul McCarthy bronze of a hacked-up Pinocchio serves as a strangely appropriate counterpoint to the Eiffel Tower looming overhead. And the master bedroom, lined with portraits, is Jacobs's version of a rogues' gallery: Above his bed, the demure Sixties blonds in Richard Prince's Untitled (Four Women Looking in the Same Direction) (1977)—individually framed, appropriated photographs—gaze over at Bra Shop (1997), Currin's iconic painting of one freakishly top-heavy bimbo measuring the breasts of another. "I just like waking up in the company of all these odd people," Jacobs explains. In the sitting room and guest bedroom, in lieu of snapshots of his friends, he has Elizabeth Peyton paintings and drawings of them: Vuitton aide-de-camp Camille Micelli and diamond dealer John Reinhold, among others. Peyton, who became a close friend of Jacobs's after they met at a 2002 opening in Paris (he invited her to dinner on the spot), says the apartment, despite its haute-bourgeois bones, is "absolutely an expression of Marc." She singles out Ruscha's word painting Peach (1964), in the living room, as emblematic of Jacobs's taste, with "that quality of simplicity that's arrived at not so easily." Underneath that painting is a woolly Lalanne sheep sculpture, just like the ones Jacobs recalls seeing in old magazine photographs of chic Paris apartments. (He has since tried buying two others at auction but was outbid.) Jacobs doesn't fancy himself a major art collector and is not gunning for some future wing at MoMA. He says he buys what he likes—work that tends toward the figurative, the graphic—and hangs it where he can see it. Reinhold, who travels with Jacobs to fairs and does the bidding for him at auctions, says Jacobs's main motive in collecting is the connection he feels with each individual piece: "It's a very serious thing for him—it's not just 'I want this, I want that,' " Reinhold says. Of course, it took some time for Jacobs to convince dealers, and artists, of that seriousness. When he bought his first Currin, Thanksgiving (2003), from Sadie Coles in London, he cannily agreed to donate it to the Tate. Currin recalls being surprised when he heard the news. "It was like, Hmm, a famous person bought a painting of mine," he says. "I didn't realize how smart Marc was about art, because I didn't know him yet." Artist Rachel Feinstein, Currin's wife and Jacobs's sometime muse, adds that Jacobs's initial sense of intimidation at galleries wasn't entirely irrational, since many dealers love nothing more than to make celebrities—particularly fashion celebrities—feel unworthy. "Marc really had to do that song and dance that dealers make you do," she says. Jacobs's most recent buys include two pieces from a new Richard Prince series that appropriates previous work of Willem de Kooning. (This fall, in the vein of his very profitable collaboration with Takashi Murakami, Jacobs recruited Prince to create a series of Vuitton handbags.) But Jacobs says he's been slowing down lately, in part because of escalating prices. And despite the odd Jack Pierson or Cindy Sherman he has lying around the house, he says he has no interest in building a collection of photographs: "I don't know, they're just too real," he says. "An image of something as it exists doesn't interest me so much." As Jacobs fills his walls with art, he is also using his own body as a canvas: His growing tattoo collection, which started with a little heart on his left shoulder, is itself almost exhibition-worthy. The newest additions are the French words OUI and LUI in bold graphics on each forearm, and, in the middle of his back, Carol Anne from Poltergeist, mesmerized by a glowing TV screen. ("Stay away from the light," Jacobs intones with mock solemnity.) On his left earlobe is a Harry Winston diamond, and on his right are three more. "Yeah, so I have this jewelry obsession now too," Jacobs says. "And people are like, 'Oh, Marc is having a midlife crisis.' And maybe that's what it is. But I'm enjoying it so much." Even if it all feels a bit self-indulgent, says Jacobs, 44, it's part of a new surge of inspiration after years of workaholism. "My interest in art has been very nourishing," he says. "I don't know that buying diamond earrings is so nourishing. But my new interest in jewelry will definitely show at some point in working on the Vuitton jewelry." In general, he says, "I find that I love fashion so much again." Over the past year and a half, Jacobs has completely transformed himself from the inside out: Gone are the stringy hair, the plastic Seventies glasses and the baggy, chubby-guy sweatshirts. One of the rare fashion designers who will admit to having any insecurities whatsoever, Jacobs cops to a lot of them ("I've always been very uncomfortable with myself"), and it's only now, while sporting defined triceps and a tan, that he can say, "I actually don't mind how I look." The makeover dates back to Jacobs's first visit with nutritionist Lindsey Duncan, who banned sugar, flour, dairy and caffeine in favor of organic salads, green vegetable-juice shakes, exercise, sunshine and supplements galore. Friends note that Jacobs's personal demons, whatever they may be, have in some ways served him well. "It's terrible to say this," says Peyton, "but I think all that pain that Marc goes through always brings him so much farther in terms of his ability to create. He's very much like an artist that way. There are all these ideas and influences and conflicts jumbled in his head, and he works through them and arrives at the next place, where you never imagined he'd go." This past spring, after Jacobs had started drinking again, he checked himself into a rehab center in Arizona but quickly soured on the place, due to the scolding atmosphere and heavy emphasis on group therapy. "There are just certain things I'm not comfortable talking about in a group of people," he says. (It didn't help that he got fan mail within days of his arrival.) He transferred to Passages in Malibu, a resortlike facility offering a spiritually based program that's looser than the classic 12-step model. Patients are allowed to read magazines, go online, use their cell phones. "It wasn't all about, 'You're bad, you drank, you must suffer!' " Jacobs says. Asked about his love life, Jacobs rolls his eyes. "It doesn't exist at the moment," he says. (His on-again, off-again thing with 26-year-old Jason Preston was off at the time of our late July interview, but the two were together again in mid-September.) Jacobs recalls that when one of his therapists at Passages asked him if he really wanted to be in a relationship, he didn't know how to answer. "I think I want the ideal long-term relationship, the storybook romance," Jacobs says. "I'd love to have that. But it's not a possession; it's not going to hang on the wall." In any case, he says, he no longer views being single as a curse. "I mean, I like to have sex, and I like to go out on dates, even dates that don't work out. But I don't feel the need to be with one person all the time. It doesn't feel like before. It's not going to complete me or anything." In Paris Jacobs enjoys spending time at home with his art, which is partly what inspired this photo portfolio. The designer liked the idea of a series that captured his home as a sort of surreal dollhouse, offering a look into "the little compartments of people's lives." When he talks about his existence in Paris, which he used to fantasize about as a teenager, he compares it to a bizarre dream. A fairy tale, maybe, but with the requisite scary parts. "I have a funny love for melancholy," says Jacobs, who, in the evenings, occasionally finds himself eating in his dining room, all by himself. Sitting at the table, he says, he'll experience an odd sense of sorrow, which brings its own kind of satisfaction. At 11 p.m., precisely two hours after his official starting time, Marc Jacobs surprised his audience by running out onto his Stefan Beckman-designed set for a quick bow. Next came the music, Ravel's Boléro, and out filed the models in finale formation. Then here was the first girl (or rather the last, because by now it was clear this extraordinary show was unspooling backward, starting with look 56 and running down to one). She wore a "silly-string guipure gown," her satin under-things peeking out and her heels perched on top of her "too-small pumps." Behind her, an image of the model in nothing but the bra and panties she wore underneath her outfit was projected on two large screens.

Jacobs collaborated with the video artist Charles Atlas to create the film that played simultaneously with the show. They shot the piece Sunday evening, and Atlas spent the whole night in the editing booth finishing it. As for the clothes and accessories, they were just as off-kilter and knock-your-socks-off as the production, with a bonkers surrealist streak. Trompe l'oeil underwear decorated georgette slipdresses, the heels of pumps protruded not from the heel at all but from the ball of the foot, and three-dimensional quilted leather bags were grafted onto square totes. Transparency was a key theme, too: Cashmere sweaters were inset with sheer panels at the waist, and reconstructed black bugle-bead evening dresses came suspended from their nude linings. Gimmicky? You bet. But also fascinating. If you want normal or tame, you're going to have to look on a different runway. Even the suits came with hip-high slits—though, this being Jacobs, the effect was just as often gawky and awkward as it was provocative.So what was it all about? With most of the models in varying stages of dishabille, Jacobs appeared to be saying something conceptual about the process of getting dressed—or getting undressed—but he was typically vague backstage. "It's cartoon versions of all the women I know—conservative types, vamps, everybody," he allowed. From the looks of two number-emblazoned team-jersey T-shirt dresses that appeared on his runway, there are footballers' wives in the designer's inner circle along with all of those rockers and artists. One thing's for certain: He's moved on from last season's bourgeois austerity. This sublime performance was about sex, which is one of the reasons why we couldn't look away.

It's always a challenge to pull out the theme from a Marc by Marc Jacobs show, what with all the layers and the mad piles of accessories. But if you had to peg his collection of shirtdresses, corduroy pantsuits, and color-blocked coats and jackets—much of it decorated in shiny gold buttons and hardware—to something, it could easily be Pan Am stewardesses, by way of Mary Tyler Moore. OK, that's two things. See? Put simply, the show was studiously retro, from the air-hostess hats right down to the two-tone patent-leather loafers.The thing that saved it from seeming like a trip to Screaming Mimi's was the way Jacobs integrated elements of his signature collection, shown the previous evening. Those deconstructed suits and evening dresses with superfluous appendages were translated here into, say, a trench with an extra front panel in a contrasting color, or a jersey-knit dress with one long sleeve and the other not only short but also in a clashing quilted-cotton fabric. All that is not to say there weren't plenty of pieces you could actually see yourself wearing, like an olive cotton-drill shirtdress or a polka-dot dress with voluminous skirts. Then there were the groovy accessories: The Lego belt buckles were a clever idea, but it's the patent lady bags and square clutches that will make the bucks.

- Qu'avez-vous pensé du Costume Institute Ball au Met la semaine dernière ? Cette soirée a représenté tellement d'efforts ! C'était épuisant, mais vraiment réussi et gratifiant. J'ai travaillé avec Cameron Diaz habillée par Dior, Liv Tyler par Calvin Klein, Jennifer Garner par Valentino et Mischa Barton par Giambattista Valli. Que des femmes très belles et différentes...

- Comment êtes-vous devenue styliste de stars ?J'ai étudié la sociologie-psychologie à l'université George Washington. A 21 ans, j'étais assistante au YM Magazine. J'ai commencé à m'occuper du stylisme de popstars dans les années 90 : Jessica Simpson, Enrique Iglesias, les Backstreet Boys. C'était lucratif, mais aujourd'hui, à 35 ans, je cherche plutôt à être inspirée. J'essaie de mélanger et équilibrer : publicité, presse, consulting, tapis rouge. Une expérience très créative que j'ai beaucoup aimé par exemple, ce sont mes contributions au « Vogue » Espagne.

- Quelles sont vos clientes actuelles ?Cameron Diaz, Liv Tyler, Jennifer Garner, Keira Knightley, Mischa Barton, Demi Moore. Je fonctionne différemment avec chacune d'elle. Parfois je partage toutes mes journées avec elles pendant six mois puis je ne les vois plus pendant les trois mois qui suivent. Mais tout dépend.

- Quelles sont les principales marques avec lesquelles vous travaillez ?Je suis ouverte à tous créateurs, mais les plus réguliers sont Valentino, Chanel, Dior, Galliano, Balenciaga, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Cavalli, Versace, Alberta Ferretti, Zac Posen à New York... La liste ne s'arrête pas là. - Quel est le tarif actuel pour le stylisme d'une prestation tapis rouge ?Je ne m'en occupe pas, c'est mon agent qui gère ce genre de détails.

- Combien d'assistantes travaillent avec vous?J'ai cinq assistantes, dont deux stylistes pour les essayages et les silhouettes. Ces filles voyagent avec les clientes, parfois durant plusieurs semaines. Elles ont 24 et 27 ans.

- Est-il difficile de se procurer un "prototype" ou une robe couture signée Balenciaga ou Chanel pour un événement tapis rouge ? On essaie de mettre une option sur une silhouette le plus tôt possible. En général, chaque maison n'a qu'une collection avec laquelle tout le monde - stylistes, magazines... - travaille. C'est de la négociation en permanence : nous empruntons un vêtement pour un essayage, qu'ensuite il faut rendre parce qu'un magazine souhaite le photographier, mais nous devons convaincre l'attaché de presse entretemps de ne le faire porter par personne d'autre. Souvent les stylistes ou les attachés de presse sont mes amis, ce qui facilite les négociations.

- Travaillez-vous directement avec les maisons de couture ou passez-vous par des agences ? Tout dépend de la maison avec laquelle je travaille. Le plus souvent, je fais des demandes aux créateurs ou aux directeurs des relations publiques. Quand j'entretiens une relation plus personnelle avec eux, je passe un simple coup de fil en direct. Lorsque je veux faire fabriquer une robe sur mesure, j'essaie de travailler avec le minimum d'intermédiaires pour que l'expérience entre le créateur et ma cliente soit la plus intime possible.

- Assistez-vous aux défilés ? Quels ont été vos favoris la saison dernière ? Les défilés, j'adore. Surtout la couture : c'est de l'art sur les podiums. J'y trouve toutes mes inspirations pour des histoires de mode, de tapis rouge ou de campagnes publicitaires. A la fin, j'ai le vertige tellement il y a de l'énergie dans l'air ces semaines-là. Cet été, j'irai bien sûr à Paris voir les shows avant d'aller célébrer l'anniversaire de Valentino à Rome. Le plusépuisant de ce métier, ce sont ces voyages permanents. La couture parisienne a lieu juste après les Oscars, ce qui complique les choses. J'aimerais tellement que ça change ! J'ai eu plein de coups de coeurla saison dernière. Dior - j'y ai choisi la robe qu'a portée Cameron au Costume Institute Ball - Valentino, Alexander McQueen, Lanvin - c'est fascinant de voir à quel point les vêtements d'Alber Elbaz qui ont l'air si simples de loin sont en réalité des constructions très techniques et complexes -, Giambattista Valli - il sait ce que les femmes veulent porter - sans oublier bien sûr Chanel : Karl est un des plus grands génies de notre temps, il ne fait jamais aucune erreur, il est stupéfiant. J'ai beaucoup aimé ce qu'a fait John Galliano cette saison, autant pour sa marque que pour Dior. Il a donné chaque fois le meilleur de lui-même. J'ai aussi une passion pour Christian Lacroix : sa couture est saisissante.

- Pouvez-vous nous décrire un événement tapis rouge récent, où tout s'est déroulé parfaitement pour votre cliente ? Je présente à toutes mes clientes le plus d'options possible : on ne peut jamais savoir comment quelqu'un va se sentir dans une robe. Je fantasme sur ce à quoi la personne devra ressembler, quelle robe elle devra porter... Parfois c'est ce qui se finit par se réaliser, parfois, non. Je m'obstinevraiment quand je suis convaincue qu'une idée est bonne. On fait plusieurs essayages car la ligne, la coupe, doit être parfaite. En ce qui concerne les bijoux, j'en propose toujours énormément. Le plus souvent, je choisis du vintage : Van Cleef, Fred Leighton, Bulgari... En revanche, pour la coiffure et le maquillage, je préfère que mes clientes restent avec leur propre équipe qui voyage en général avec elles comme une vraie famille. Ce sont des expériences presque « organiques ». Aux Oscar 2006, par exemple, je n'aurais jamais imaginé faire porter à Keira Knightley une simple robe à une bretelle avec un collier aussi imposant. Mais l'opportunité était trop belle pour elle, du genre qui ne se présente qu'une fois dans une vie : cette parure somptueuse sortie des archives Bulgari a appartenu à Elizabeth Taylor. Mon objectif est toujours de transmettre à mes clientes le sentiment qu'elles sont exceptionnelles à travers ce genre d'expériences.

- Et votre pire expérience ?Les choses prennent toujours des tournures cauchemardesques malgré tous nos efforts. L'an dernier à Cannes, j'avais une cliente qui portait une robe avec un lien ficelle. Sur la moitié des photos le lendemain, on voyait cette bretelle, sur l'autre, non. Heureusement, la robe était magnifique, avec ou sans !

- Parlez-nous du vintage : est-ce que vous aimez toujours chercher des pièces rares ? Je collectionne le vintage depuis l'âge de 13 ans et c'est toutmon univers, toute mon esthétique. Aujourd'hui, même avec tout l'argent du monde, il est difficile de rester unique : c'est un des moyens infaillibles. C'est génial de pouvoir se dire qu'on est seul au monde à posséder un modèle. La période glamour que je préfère est celle des années 20 à 70. Dans tous mes voyages je pars à la chasse aux trésors. Mes préférés sont Galliano, Lanvin et bien évidemment Yves Saint Laurent, le plus grand créateur de notre temps. Je ne pense pas que cette mode du vintage disparaisse un jour : au contraire, elle va empirer, côté prix ! La plupart des créateurs aujourd'hui s'inspirent du vintage et tant mieux. Je ne vois rien d'anormal à vouloir rendre hommage à de grands créateurs tels que Poiret et Balenciaga.

- Quelle est votre pièce vintage préférée? Ma mère m'a offert un manteau en fourrure léopard signé YSL des années 60 dont je suis totalement amoureuse. J'adore mes trenchs vintage Gucci aux doublures de soie siglées "GG », tout Tom Ford, mes Halston et ma collection de sacs Chanel.

- Que répondez-vous quand on reproche aux stylistes de stars d'être celles qui les condamnent à fondre jusqu'à la taille mannequin pour pouvoir enfiler les prototypes de défilés ? Je viens de passer une très mauvaise année avec la presse à ce sujet. Me retrouver comme ça en première ligne et sous les projecteurs n'a jamais été un plaisir pour moi, sinonj'aurais choisi d'être actrice. Heureusement, le monde de la mode m'a vraiment soutenue. Je répondrais que c'est m'accorder vraiment trop d'importance que de s'imaginer que je puisse être la cause d'un tel phénomène.Et que la presse cherche sans cesse un responsable à ce problème de la maigreur : cf. Kate Moss dans les années 90 avec l'histoire de l'héroïne chic. Je travaille avec toutes les femmes, y compris des femmes voluptueuses auxquelles je cherche à transmettre de la confiance.

- Qui aimeriez-vous habiller que vous n'ayez pas encore eu l'occasion de faire ? J'aimerais vraiment travailler avec Charlize Theron, mais il faut que ça se fasse d'une manière naturelle, alors on verra. - Vous faites aussi beaucoup de consulting pour des marques de mode. Vous allez travailler sur le relancement de la marque Halston. C'est une expérience qui vous amuse ? Je suis très excitée par ma collaboration avec Halston. Pour moi, lui et Yves Saint Laurent sont les deux personnes les plus influentes de la mode du XXème siècle. Il n'est mort qu'en 1990 et son nom n'a pas encore été terni. La nouvelle collection défilera à New York avec peut-être une présentation à Paris. Halston représentait tellement le fun et le glamour : il est temps que ce grand nom reprenne sa place dans la mode américaine. - Serez-vous à Cannes ? Pas sûr encore. Je vais faire beaucoup d'allers-retours Europe-USA entre maintenant et la couture. Neuf en tout. Je n'ai pas encore décidé si j'aurais ou non la possibilité de venir au festival.
